"The donation, which will be funded over the next few years, is intended to support new or expanded Library programs and initiatives with an eye toward innovations which will attract and involve all aspects of the Hillsdale community," the library said.

The funds will supplement existing community efforts at the library, which has been rededicated as the Gayle and Paul Gross building.

Gayle and Paul were just 23 when they moved to Hillsdale and have been residents for nearly 60 years.

Paul Gross, formerly a professor at Bergen County Community College, succeeded in building an insurance brokerage firm, The NIA Group, which was headquartered in Paramus. He served as a Trustee of the Library from 2001 to 2007 and was chairman of the library's capital campaign during the renovation and expansion project.

The Gross family supported multiple endeavors, including the establishment of a playground at Beechwood Park, decorative lighting around Memorial Park and other Borough agencies.

“Libraries are the perfect compliment to self-improvement and lifelong learning," Library Director Dave Franz said. "We are grateful for the future opportunities the Hillsdale Library can offer its patrons with this wonderful gift.”
